Pemalang Regent Arrested for Extorting Subordinates and Private Sector to Pay KPK Case Broker

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro allegedly extorted officials within the Pemalang Regency Government and private sector parties to collect Rp1.98 billion. The money was purportedly used to handle a case at the anti-graft agency. “During the investigation, the KPK team discovered that the collected funds were used for the regent’s personal interests, namely to settle a case at the KPK,” said KPK Acting Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday. Taufik explained that the case in question was a corruption investigation in Pemalang Regency. Initially, Anom instructed his confidant, Mohamad Haris alias Gus Haris, to meet with his brother-in-law, identified as HAN, to be introduced to Lilik Budi Suprianto, the father of a police officer named Setya Budi Dias who is assigned to the KPK as an administrative staff member. Anom, along with Gus Haris, subsequently met with Lilik three times at restaurants in Magelang and Semarang, Central Java. During one of these meetings, Lilik allegedly demanded Rp2 billion to resolve the case. “After AWI and GHA were convinced that LBS could handle the matter, an agreement was reached between AWI, GHA, and LBS,” Taufik stated. On 27-28 July 2026, Anom ordered Gus Haris to collect money from Pemalang Regency officials and private parties. The KPK suspects that a handover of Rp1.2 billion occurred at a hotel in Semarang on 27 July 2026. “After the handover, LBS returned to his home in Purworejo. The KPK team then apprehended LBS at his residence and seized the Rp1.2 billion in cash,” he said. Anom was arrested at a hotel in Jakarta, while Gus Haris was arrested in Pemalang on the same day. The KPK conducted its 18th sting operation of 2026 on 28 July, detaining 21 individuals. Four have been named as suspects across two clusters: the first involves alleged extortion by Anom Widiyantoro and Gus Haris against Pemalang officials and private parties; the second involves alleged bribery by Setya Budi Dias, a police officer assigned to the KPK, and his father Lilik Budi Suprianto.
