Pemalang Regent Allegedly Collected Rp 1.9 Billion from Subordinates to Bribe KPK
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro a suspect in an extortion case. Anom allegedly extorted his subordinates to pay for the ‘settlement’ of a case at the KPK involving a KPK staff member.
KPK Acting Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein stated that Anom initially extorted his subordinates through his confidant, Mohamad Haris, collecting Rp 1.9 billion. The extorted funds were then used to pay the KPK official.
Taufik explained that Haris met and was introduced to Lilik Budi Suprianto, the father of a KPK administrative staff member named Dias. Anom, Haris, and Lilik subsequently held three meetings at a restaurant in the Magelang and Semarang areas, during which Lilik requested Rp 2 billion to settle the case.
From the total funds collected by Haris, Rp 1.2 billion was eventually handed over to Lilik Budi Suprianto. The KPK is still tracing the remaining funds collected by Haris.
