PEM Akamigas Graduates 207 Students, Strengthens Energy Sector Workforce
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Politeknik Energi dan Mineral (PEM) Akamigas has conferred degrees on 207 graduates from five study programmes at its 55th Applied Undergraduate Convocation for the 2025/2026 academic year in Cepu.
The 207 graduates came from five study programmes, namely Oil and Gas Production Engineering, Oil and Gas Processing Engineering, Refinery Mechanical Engineering, Refinery Instrumentation Engineering, and Oil and Gas Logistics.
“They comprise self-funded students, recipients of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) scholarships, and scholarship recipients from cooperation with regional governments and industry partners, with 85 graduates achieving cum laude honours,” said the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ahmad Erani Yustika, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.
The absorption of PEM Akamigas graduates into the workforce has also shown an increasing trend over the past four years.
Based on tracer study results, the employment rate rose from 61 per cent for the 2022 cohort to 90 per cent for the 2025 cohort, while 40 per cent of the 2026 graduates had already been recruited by companies before their convocation, up from 27.1 per cent in the previous year.
Erani stressed that strengthening vocational human resources is essential to support strategic energy programmes and safeguard national energy security.
“Through the Asta Cita vision, national energy resilience and sovereignty are an absolute priority. The implementation of national strategic programmes such as the mandatory B50 biodiesel policy, preparations for the bioethanol-based E20 programme, and the acceleration of the Abadi Masela Field National Strategic Project require a supply of competent and adaptive vocational talent in the field,” said Erani.
According to him, energy sector development policy is directed towards increasing the added value of natural resources while strengthening national energy resilience on a sustainable basis.
“Therefore, the Ministry’s policy is directed towards optimising the use of domestic energy resources, increasing added value through downstream processing, strengthening the national energy mix, expanding equitable access to energy, and maintaining environmental sustainability,” he affirmed.
The Director of PEM Akamigas, Erdila Indriani, said that the growing confidence of the business world in PEM Akamigas graduates is inseparable from strengthening a vocational education curriculum based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The curriculum is combined with a mandatory six-month industrial internship programme.
“This massive vote of confidence from industry proves that practice-based learning methods, an adaptive curriculum that matches the real needs of industry, and close synergy with regulators and regional governments have successfully produced job-ready human resources. We educate students not only to excel academically, but also to possess integrity and strong character to address the challenges of the global energy transition,” said Erdila.
In addition to strengthening collaboration with industry, PEM Akamigas continues to improve its academic quality.
By the end of 2025, all of its applied undergraduate programmes had attained Excellent accreditation, with students actively achieving national and international accomplishments.
Entering the 2026/2027 academic year, PEM Akamigas is opening its doors to international students through The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS) scheme.
In addition, the campus is preparing to launch three new study programmes: a D3 in New and Renewable Energy, a D3 in Oil and Gas Processing, and a D4 in Occupational Health and Safety (K3) for Oil and Gas.
Curriculum strengthening, industry cooperation, and the development of these study programmes form part of PEM Akamigas’s efforts to prepare vocational workers suited to the needs of the energy sector.
