Pelni Records 660,654 Passengers Utilising 30% Ship Ticket Discount
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia, or PT Pelni (Persero), has recorded 660,654 passengers taking advantage of the 30 per cent ferry ticket discount programme, a government economic stimulus aimed at boosting mobility and public purchasing power during the 2026 school holidays.
Pelni Corporate Secretary Ditto Pappilanda, when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the programme had reached around 96 per cent of its projected beneficiary target of 693,690 passengers.
“Based on company data, as of 21 July 2026, total passenger numbers for that departure period have reached 690,905 people,” Ditto said.
According to the shipping company, the government’s economic stimulus programme in the form of a 30 per cent ferry ticket discount has had a positive impact on improving public mobility.
“This programme is still running until 15 August 2026, or it may end sooner if the quota is fully absorbed,” said Ditto.
The discount programme applies to ticket purchases from 6 June to 15 August 2026, with the travel period running from 20 June to 15 August 2026.
Meanwhile, the five most popular destinations during the programme are Makassar in South Sulawesi Province, Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, Ambon in Maluku, Bau-Bau in Southeast Sulawesi, and Surabaya in East Java.
According to Ditto, the high take-up of the programme shows that the economic stimulus in the sea transport sector has delivered tangible benefits to the public through more affordable transport services, while also encouraging greater mobility during the school holiday period.
“Public enthusiasm for this programme is very high. To date, around 96 per cent of the beneficiary quota has been absorbed, leaving only about 4 per cent remaining,” he said.
Nevertheless, he urged members of the public who are still planning to travel aboard Pelni vessels to book their tickets through official sales channels before the quota runs out.
Ditto added that the company continues to ensure fleet readiness and service quality throughout the discount programme period so that all journeys run safely, comfortably, and on time.
“Pelni is committed to delivering services that prioritise safety first, zero accidents, and service excellence,” he said.
The company also reminded all prospective passengers to bring identification matching the details on their tickets and to arrive at the port early so that the boarding process can proceed in an orderly, smooth, and comfortable manner.
The stimulus programme provides a 30 per cent discount on the base fare of economy-class tickets across all Pelni passenger ship routes. The discount excludes insurance costs and port fees, and applies until 15 August 2026 or for as long as the programme quota remains available.
Ferry tickets can be purchased through various official sales channels provided by the company, including the Pelni Mobile application, the Pelni website, the 162 Contact Centre, branch ticket offices, and several other channels, making it easy for the public to access ticket purchase services safely and conveniently.
For payments, the company also provides a range of transaction methods through official partners to offer ease, security, and convenience to the public during the ticket purchase process.
Pelni is a state-owned enterprise (BUMN) operating in the shipping services sector, currently operating 25 passenger ships serving 483 routes and calling at 75 ports.
In addition to passenger transport, Pelni also operates 30 pioneer ship routes that serve as accessibility lifelines for residents of underdeveloped, frontier, outermost, and border (3TP) regions, with pioneer ships calling at 229 ports across a total of 516 routes and 2,515 schedules.
The company also operates 17 roll-on/roll-off vessels. For logistics business services, Pelni currently operates eight sea toll routes as well as one dedicated route for livestock vessels.
