Pelni Predicts Peak Lebaran Return Traffic at Tanjung Priok Port on H-3
PT Pelni Jakarta Branch estimates that the peak of the Lebaran 1447 Hijriah exodus at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta will occur on H-3 Idul Fitri, specifically on Wednesday 18 March and Thursday 19 March. During this period, passenger activity is predicted to increase significantly due to high public demand for sea transport to return to their home towns.
“The peak exodus this year is predicted to occur on Wednesday (18/3) and Thursday (19/3) at Tanjung Priok Port,” said Antonius Lumban Gaol, Head of PT Pelni Jakarta Branch, in Jakarta on Thursday (12/3).
Antonius explained that during this period, one vessel will be scheduled to transport returnees from Tanjung Priok Port to various ports in central and eastern Indonesia during the 1447 Hijriah Idul Fitri holiday period.
He added that activity at the passenger terminal is expected to increase significantly. As a result, his team, together with various stakeholders, has prepared security posts to ensure passenger services operate smoothly.
“Passenger activity will be high at the terminal and we, along with stakeholders, have prepared security posts to serve passengers,” he said.
Meanwhile, return traffic to Tanjung Priok Port is expected to occur on Wednesday 25 March. On that date, a vessel is scheduled to dock at the port to transport passengers returning to Jakarta after celebrating Lebaran in their home towns.
Additionally, PT Pelni Jakarta Branch also projects an increase in the number of passengers using ships from Tanjung Priok Port to various regions in Indonesia during the 2026 Lebaran exodus season compared to the same period in the previous year.
“We predict a passenger increase of 6% to 7%, or approximately 49,100 passengers,” said Antonius.
According to Antonius, the increase in passenger numbers is estimated to be influenced by a government subsidy programme in the form of discounted ship tickets for the public.
“This will attract more passengers sailing from Tanjung Priok Port,” he said.
In efforts to improve service quality, Pelni is also ensuring that all ship tickets can be purchased online. With this system, it is hoped that the public can obtain tickets more easily whilst preventing ticket scalping practices.
He stressed that his team is committed to preventing ticket scalping practices in the Tanjung Priok Port area, both at the passenger terminal and at the Pelni Jakarta Branch office.
