Pelni predicts passenger numbers to rise by 6 percent during Eid exodus
Jakarta — PT Pelni Jakarta branch has predicted that the number of passengers using maritime shipping services via ferries departing from Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta to various ports across Indonesia will increase during the 2026 Eid holiday exodus compared to the same period last year.
“We forecast there will be an increase in the number of passengers reaching six to seven percent, or around 49,100 passengers,” said Antonius Lumban Gaol, Head of PT Pelni Jakarta Branch, in Jakarta on Thursday.
According to him, this increase is predicted to occur due to a government subsidy programme offering discounted or reduced-price ferry tickets worth 30 percent.
“This will attract the number of passengers who will sail from Tanjung Priok Port,” he said.
In enhancing services to passengers, all Pelni ferry departure tickets can be purchased online. He assured that there would be no ticket scalping practices at Tanjung Priok Port, either at the passenger terminal or at the Pelni Jakarta Branch Office.
In preparing transport for both the outbound exodus and return journey, the company deployed 20 Pelni personnel in the disembarkation area at the passenger terminal. Additionally, there are 14 security officers and 14 Indonesian Navy personnel assisting with security at both the terminal and office.
“We ensure there are no scalping practices anymore,” he said.
The company is also collaborating with the Harbour Master and Port Authority (KSOP) in preparing vessels and passenger safety equipment through ramp checks or spot inspections.
Moreover, Pelni Jakarta is also working with Pelindo, which has prepared the passenger terminal properly, and the police force in terms of passenger security.
“We are working synergistically to achieve maximum service for passengers during this return journey and exodus period,” he said.
Passengers will board the KM Labobar vessel at Tanjung Priok Port and spend approximately four days and 15 hours travelling to Ambon Port.
