Pelni predicts Eid-al-Fitr travel peak at Tanjung Priok Port on H-3
Jakarta — PT Pelni Jakarta Branch predicts the peak exodus of Eid-al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah travellers will occur at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on H-3 Lebaran, or Wednesday 18 March and Thursday 19 March.
“The peak travel period this year is predicted to occur on Wednesday (18 March) and Thursday (19 March) at Tanjung Priok Port,” said PT Pelni Jakarta Branch Head Antonius Lumban Gaol at a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.
He stated that one vessel will be available to depart from Tanjung Priok Port, carrying holiday travellers to several ports in central and eastern Indonesia during the Eid-al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah break.
“Passenger activity will be high at the passenger terminal, and we along with relevant stakeholders have prepared security posts to serve passengers,” he said.
Meanwhile, the return traffic to Tanjung Priok Port is estimated to occur on Wednesday 25 March. At that time, a vessel will dock at Tanjung Priok Port bringing passengers returning to Jakarta from their hometowns.
“We predict an increase in passenger numbers of six to seven per cent, reaching approximately 49,100 passengers,” said Antonius.
According to him, this increase is predicted to result from the government subsidy programme providing the public with a 30 per cent discount on ship tickets.
“This will attract more passengers who wish to travel from Tanjung Priok Port,” he said.
To enhance passenger services, all departure tickets for Pelni vessels can now be purchased online. He assured that there would be no ticket scalping at Tanjung Priok Port, either at the passenger terminal or at the PT Pelni Jakarta Branch office.
