Pelni Passenger Missing After Jumping Overboard on Makassar-Labuan Bajo Route

A passenger named Yulius Arlan, 21, jumped overboard from the KM Binaya into the open sea. The incident occurred whilst the state-owned PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) vessel was en route from Makassar, South Sulawesi, to Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.

"The information is that he jumped into the open sea between Makassar and Labuan Bajo," said Stephanus Risdiyanto, Head of the Labuan Bajo Class III Harbormaster and Port Authority Office, on Friday (24/7/2026).

The location where Yulius jumped is within the Flores Sea. The resident of Tenda sub-district, Langke Rembong district, Manggarai, was reported to have jumped overboard in the early hours of Thursday (23/7/2026).

The KM Binaya has since arrived in Labuan Bajo and continued its journey to other destinations. Stephanus declined to comment on the search process, stating that it falls under the jurisdiction of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

The search for the victim is being conducted by the South Sulawesi Basarnas office, as the incident location falls within its area of responsibility. According to information gathered, Yulius has not yet been found.

The Head of PT Pelni’s Labuan Bajo branch, Fanny Puspita, has not yet responded to requests for confirmation. Fanny did not reply to WhatsApp messages or telephone calls from detikBali.
