PT Pelni (Persero) has opened free humanitarian aid delivery access for communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Sunday (16/8).

The initial shipment will be carried out using KM Tidar, which is scheduled to depart from Surabaya on Sunday (16/8) at 22.00 WIB. Subsequently, aid will be transported using other Pelni vessels according to their respective routes and departure schedules.

This facility is a form of Pelni’s concern to help accelerate the distribution of basic necessities for communities in disaster-affected areas.

Through this programme, Pelni accepts aid goods from various regions of Indonesia to be transported using Pelni passenger ships according to their regular routes.

Aid that can be sent includes essential needs of affected communities such as food, bottled drinking water, tents, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping equipment, lighting, medicines and medical equipment, child and adult nappies, sanitary pads, milk and baby food. All aid sent must be humanitarian goods and not intended for commercial purposes.

Director of Freight and Sea Toll Business and Chair of the Pelni Aid Post Team for NTT, Hana Suhardi, said the free shipping facility is a form of Pelni’s contribution in supporting the handling of communities affected by the earthquake in NTT.

“Pelni has opened free aid delivery access so that aid can be distributed more easily. We are ready to utilise the Pelni shipping network to help accelerate the distribution of humanitarian logistics to affected areas,” said Hana.

Hana also explained that aid delivery will follow the regular routes and schedules of Pelni ships. “We invite institutions, communities, or agencies to jointly help our brothers and sisters in NTT. We hope this facility can facilitate aid distribution and provide benefits for communities affected by the earthquake,” concluded Hana.

Head of Pelni Kupang Branch, Teguh Harisetiadi, said that Pelni Kupang Branch is ready to support the process of receiving and distributing humanitarian aid for communities affected by the earthquake in the East Nusa Tenggara region, especially shipments through the port of Kupang.

“We at Pelni Kupang Branch are ready to support the smooth distribution of humanitarian aid that will arrive through the Pelni shipping network. We will coordinate with various parties so that the process of receiving, handling, and distributing aid can run well and be on target,” said Teguh.

According to Teguh, disaster management support is part of Pelni’s commitment to be present in the community, especially in emergency conditions. Pelni Kupang Branch also invites institutions, communities, businesses, and the public in the Kupang area and its surroundings who wish to distribute aid to utilise the humanitarian aid delivery facility that has been opened by Pelni.

“We invite all parties who have concern for communities affected by the earthquake to help together. Every aid sent through Pelni is a form of concern and mutual cooperation to ease the burden of our brothers and sisters in affected areas,” he added.

Pelni Kupang Branch will continue to coordinate with the head office, local government, relevant agencies, and other parties to support the smooth distribution of humanitarian logistics in accordance with the provisions and carrying capacity of Pelni ships.

The aid is further planned to be distributed to affected communities in two areas, namely 1,000 packages for Sikka Regency and 725 packages for Ende Regency.
