Pelni Offers 20 Percent Discount on Container Freight Rates

PT PELAYARAN Nasional Indonesia or PT Pelni (Persero) is offering a 20 percent discount on container freight rates from 27 March to 30 April 2026. This programme aims to smooth the distribution of goods post-Lebaran.

Pelni’s Corporate Secretary Ditto Pappilanda stated that the discount applies only to fleet rates, while handling or loading and unloading costs will follow normal rates at each port.

“ This 20 percent discount programme for container cargo is our strategic step to maintain the stability of cargo transport performance, particularly during the low season period after the Lebaran exodus,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

Ditto explained that the programme applies to bookings from 27 March to 30 April 2026 and is not tied to the ship’s departure date. Rates for dry containers and reefer containers will be transported on ships KM Dobonsolo, KM Ciremai, KM Gunung Dempo, KM Dorolonda, and KM Sinabung, according to each ship’s regular routes.

However, the programme does not apply to empty container shipments as they have their own rate scheme. It applies to regular shippers with no quota limits per sender as long as space capacity on each ship is available.

Pelni targets this programme to increase the container load factor on passenger ships to at least 70 percent during the period after Idul Fitri. “We hope this initiative can encourage an increase in cargo volume and provide convenience for customers in distributing goods to various regions, including underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas,” Ditto added.
