Pelni Baubau Tackles Ticket Scalpers, Encourages Public to Purchase Tickets Digitally
PELNI Baubau is increasingly focused on educating the public to avoid ticket scalping practices and encouraging the use of official channels for ticket purchases.
The Head of the Baubau Branch of PT Pelni, Djasman, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to tackling ticket scalping and encouraging the public to buy tickets through official channels. Djasman acknowledged that scalpers are still frequently found in various ports.
“Every port definitely has scalpers,” said Djasman when met at the Baubau Pelni Branch Office, Southeast Sulawesi, Thursday (February 26).
According to Djasman, the main effort being made is to educate prospective passengers so that they are not tempted to buy tickets through illegal intermediaries. Pelni provides various easily accessible purchasing channels, including Pelni Mobile, official ticket counters, and official Pelni travel and merchandise outlets.
“Pelni has made it easy to purchase tickets through Pelni Mobile, our ticket counters, and official Pelni agents. We want passengers to choose official channels for ticket purchases,” he explained.
Djasman emphasized that buying tickets through scalpers actually disadvantages passengers, because the prices sold are more expensive than Pelni’s official fares. “Why buy at a higher price when the official price is already available?” he said.
Purchasing official tickets also ensures that passenger data matches the ticket, reducing the risk if passengers buy unofficial tickets. “Official tickets guarantee that the identity matches the ID card, avoiding problems when boarding the ship or on the ship,” added Djasman.
To support the use of digital channels, Pelni Baubau continues to introduce the Pelni Mobile application in the port area and plans further socialization, including in the Kotamara area. “Many people already know about Pelni Mobile, but in the island areas, some still have difficulty accessing it,” said Djasman.
