Pelita Harapan Group Expands Education Ecosystem in Bandung

Pelita Harapan Group (PHG) President Dr. Stephanie Riady has asserted that quality education is measured not only by academic achievement but also by its ability to shape character and develop every child’s potential through collaboration between schools, families, government, and society. She made the statement during the introduction of Sekolah Dian Harapan (SDH) Bandung on Tuesday, attended by officials from the West Java Provincial Government, Bandung City Government, education leaders, partners, and parents.

Stephanie said her experiences meeting teachers, parents, and students across various regions have reinforced her belief that educational quality is not primarily determined by facilities or technology, but by a learning environment where every child feels valued, heard, trusted, and has room to grow according to their potential. For over three decades, PHG has been developing an educational ecosystem based on the philosophy of true knowledge, true faith, and true character, placing character and faith formation as the main foundation for developing the whole person.

‘We are not merely building schools. We are building hope, shaping character, and preparing the generation that will determine Indonesia’s future,’ Stephanie said. She stressed that education is a shared responsibility, requiring families, schools, government, and society to walk in the same vision for children to grow wholly in knowledge, character, and life calling.

SDH Bandung is part of PHG’s commitment to strengthening collaboration in building superior and character-driven Indonesian human resources. PHG currently operates more than 70 schools across Indonesia. Stephanie noted that Bandung was chosen for its long tradition as a city of education that has produced many thinkers, innovators, artists, and leaders.

Muftiah Yulismi, a policy analyst from the West Java Provincial Secretariat, welcomed SDH Bandung’s presence as part of efforts to strengthen education quality. She affirmed the provincial government’s openness to broad collaboration with educational institutions committed to building excellent human resources, aligning with the Gapura Panca Waluya character-building programme. The presence of SDH Bandung is expected to enrich the city’s educational ecosystem and expand public choice towards education oriented not only on academic achievement but also on character, leadership, creativity, and social awareness.
