Pelindo Supports Coastal Ecosystem Restoration in Muara Gembong

State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) is supporting the restoration of coastal ecosystems in Muara Gembong, Bekasi Regency, West Java. The initiative is part of the company’s social and environmental responsibility programme, focusing on mangrove planting to address severe coastal erosion and ecosystem degradation in the area. Muara Gembong has experienced significant shoreline loss due to abrasion, land subsidence, and the conversion of mangrove forests into fish ponds. Pelindo’s involvement includes planting mangrove seedlings and other coastal vegetation to rehabilitate damaged areas, enhance biodiversity, and provide natural protection against tidal flooding. The programme also aims to raise community awareness about the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and to involve local residents in long-term conservation efforts. This restoration project is expected to improve the environmental quality of the coastal zone, support fisheries productivity, and strengthen the region’s resilience to climate change impacts.
