Pelindo Soft Launches Port Services in Nipa Waters
This activity is a follow-up to the concession permit granted by the Ministry of Transportation to Pelindo on 6 May for the provision and operation of port services in the Nipa Waters concession area. Pelindo’s CEO, Achmad Muchtasyar, stated that the operation of NTAA aims to strengthen Indonesia’s role in international shipping routes, particularly in the Malacca Strait region. “The Malacca Strait is one of the world’s main shipping lanes with a highly strategic position in global trade. Given Indonesia’s geographic location, we should take a larger role in the international maritime services ecosystem, not just as a transit country but as a competitive and value-adding maritime service provider,” he said in a written statement on Monday, 25 May 2026. He explained that the Malacca Strait is one of the world’s busiest sea trade routes. It is also the most important global shipping lane connecting the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea, with thousands of international vessels passing through annually. This position has made the area a hub for various international maritime services, including ship-to-ship transfer (STS) operations. Achmad explained that the development of services in Nipa Waters is a crucial opportunity for Indonesia to strengthen its national presence in global trade routes and enhance the competitiveness of the national maritime sector. “The development of NTAA is not merely a port business expansion but part of efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global logistics and trade chain. We hope this service will provide economic value and strengthen national maritime connectivity,” he added. The port services there include ship-to-ship transfer (STS), vessel services, and floating storage. Achmad said Pelindo would also develop operational support in line with international safety and service standards. He also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Transportation and all stakeholders for supporting the NTAA development process leading to this soft launch. “We thank the government and relevant stakeholders for their support and trust. Moving forward, we request continued collaboration from all parties to ensure NTAA operations proceed smoothly, safely, and deliver optimal benefits for strengthening the national maritime sector,” Achmad concluded.
