Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang Strengthens Worker Fire Emergency Preparedness
PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Panjang has improved worker preparedness for emergency conditions, particularly fires, through an Occupational Health and Safety (K3) Emergency Response Awareness and Drill activity. The activity involved the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Bandarlampung City Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat).
General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang Hardianto said the activity was part of efforts to strengthen the safety culture and ensure all workers understand emergency handling procedures. According to him, preparedness is important because an appropriate response can help minimise risk when a fire occurs.
“This activity is part of efforts to strengthen the safety culture while ensuring workers understand emergency handling procedures, particularly for fires,” Hardianto said in Bandarlampung on Thursday.
He explained that the activity was not merely a simulation but also a means to test workers’ readiness in facing emergency situations. Through direct training, workers are expected to understand the actions that must be taken without waiting for instructions in conditions that endanger safety.
“When a fire occurs, life safety is the top priority. Every worker must understand evacuation routes, know safe areas, and follow the instructions of the evacuation team,” Hardianto said.
In the simulation, the BPBD and Damkarmat of Bandarlampung City provided support based on a prepared fire response scenario. The involvement of relevant agencies was also part of efforts to ensure coordination between workers and disaster management elements can run effectively when facing emergency conditions.
The activity continued with increased awareness of various potential fire hazards in the work environment. Workers were also given an understanding of evacuation procedures, the use of light fire extinguishers (APAR), and the steps that need to be taken when facing an emergency.
Hardianto emphasised that emergency response drills need to be carried out continuously so that workers’ knowledge is not merely theoretical. Regular drills are also expected to build workers’ calmness and readiness in making decisions when facing unexpected situations.
