Jakarta — PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo recorded significant growth in cruise ship activity throughout 2025. The company served 215 cruise-ship calls with a total of 424,507 passengers through its passenger terminals. This achievement continues a rising trend over the past three years: 149 calls in 2023, 190 in 2024, and 215 in 2025, reinforcing Indonesia’s position as a key destination in the global cruise network. The arrival of hundreds of thousands of international tourists by cruise ship has also spurred tourism activity across flagship destinations from Bali to the Nusa Tenggara and Sulawesi regions, while delivering a multiplier effect to regional economies.

Group Head of the Corporate Secretariat at Pelindo, Ali Sodikin, said this positive trend reflects growing confidence among international cruise industry players in the readiness of port infrastructure and the quality of services provided by the company.

“The growth in cruise-ship calls in recent years shows Indonesia’s increasing appeal as a cruise destination, and demonstrates global confidence in the quality of services and port infrastructure managed by Pelindo,” Ali said.

Furthermore, Pelindo continues to strengthen collaboration with regional governments, cruise operators, travel agents, and other stakeholders to ensure each cruise visit provides the best experience for travellers and optimal economic benefits for local communities. One of the main contributors to cruise traffic is Benoa Port, recorded as a major hub with 65 calls and 146,105 passengers in 2025, reflecting high confidence in Benoa’s capacity and service quality as Indonesia’s gateway to maritime tourism. To bolster this position, Pelindo continues to accelerate port development through the Bali Maritime Tourism Hub (BMTH) project, aimed at increasing the docking capacity for large cruise ships and opening up more international cruise routes to Bali. Meanwhile, Ketut Yasa, Managing Director of Destination Asia, stated that the infrastructure development by Pelindo, including channel deepening and extension of the Benoa wharf and the operation of Gilimas Terminal, has enabled large cruise ships up to 347 metres in length to berth in Indonesia.
