Pelindo Ready to Serve Lebaran Homecoming Traffic at 63 Passenger Terminals
Jakarta, VIVA – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), known as Pelindo, has confirmed the readiness of its facilities and infrastructure across 63 passenger and roll-on/roll-off terminals managed by the company to support the smooth flow of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming transport season. The preparations include optimising port services, increasing operational capacity, and strengthening coordination with all stakeholders.
Pelindo Group Head of Corporate Secretariat Ali Sodikin stated that the company is committed to ensuring passenger services and terminal operations run safely, smoothly, and comfortably during the Lebaran transport period, which is predicted to see a 5 per cent increase in public mobility compared to last year.
“In 2025, Pelindo served 2,363,567 passengers who chose sea transport for their Lebaran homecoming. Movement during the 2026 Lebaran homecoming is predicted to rise to 2.5 million passengers based on last year’s figures,” Ali said.
In response, Ali added that management is preparing facilities, internal operational staff, and security personnel from the military and police, as well as enhancing passenger baggage inspections to ensure a safe and comfortable Lebaran homecoming experience.
As part of its operational strategy, Pelindo has prepared Ciwandan Port in Banten to ease queuing congestion at the Merak–Bakauheni ferry crossing. Bojonegara Port, located north of Ciwandan Port, has been prepared as an alternative should both Merak and Ciwandan ports experience vehicle queuing congestion.
Beyond preparing port facilities, Pelindo is also participating in the 2026 Free Homecoming with SOEs Programme organised by the SOE Regulatory Body together with BPI Danantara under the theme “Safe Homecoming, Sharing Hope.”
This policy is in line with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto as a demonstration of the SOEs’ commitment to focusing not only on business performance but also on delivering tangible benefits to the public. This year, Pelindo is providing a total of more than 7,000 free bus seats for homecoming and return journeys as part of Pelindo’s corporate social and environmental responsibility programme.
“Registration for Pelindo’s free homecoming service can be done online. We encourage those in need to keep monitoring the @pelindo Instagram social media account for the latest information,” Ali explained.
Pelindo also urged members of the public planning to travel by sea for their homecoming and return journeys to arrive well ahead of departure schedules to avoid congestion. The hope is that travellers can enjoy a more comfortable journey, particularly at locations with high passenger traffic such as the ports of Tanjung Perak, Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Makassar, and Balikpapan.
