Pelindo Container Terminal Wins Two Green and Smart Port Awards
PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas has won awards at the Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI) ASRI 2026 event through two of its managed terminals: the Banjarmasin Container Terminal (TPK), which received a three-star rating, and the Bitung Container Terminal, which received a two-star rating. The awards were presented by Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Food in Gresik today.
The awards were based on assessment results conducted throughout 2025. TPK Banjarmasin and TPK Bitung were deemed to have met the criteria for implementing green and smart port principles, covering aspects of management, port technicalities, occupational health and safety (K3), environment, energy, and service digitalisation.
The GSPI ASRI 2026 programme is an initiative to encourage the transformation of ports in Indonesia to become more ‘Asri’ (safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful), while implementing environmentally friendly operational governance supported by digital technology.
Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan stated that ports hold a strategic position in maintaining the smooth operation of the national food logistics system. According to him, the function of a port is not limited to being a place for loading and unloading goods. He assessed that the transformation towards green and smart ports needs to be continuously expanded so that the goods distribution process becomes increasingly efficient and capable of supporting national food security.
‘Ports are the main nodes in the national food logistics system that connect production centres, industrial areas, distribution centres, and consumption areas. Good port management is crucial for ensuring supply smoothness, helping to reduce price disparities, and maintaining food stability,’ Zulkifli Hasan said in a written statement on Wednesday (15/7/2026).
Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi expressed hope that more ports in Indonesia would join the GSPI ASRI programme. He expects the application of safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful principles to not only cover the sea transportation sector but also be expanded to various other transportation modes. ‘We hope other ports will soon follow the ASRI movement. In the future, this programme will not only cover sea transportation but also other transportation activities. We will continue to encourage the ASRI movement to be implemented more widely,’ Dudy said.
Corporate Secretary of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, Widyaswendra, said the awards are part of the company’s ongoing process to build container terminals that are more environmentally friendly, safe, and technology-based. ‘As a container terminal operator, we are committed to continuously realising green ports. This commitment does not stop at fulfilling assessment indicators but must be reflected in daily operational management, from energy use efficiency and environmental management to improving occupational safety and utilising digital technology,’ Widyaswendra said.
According to him, the achievements of TPK Banjarmasin and TPK Bitung demonstrate the importance of terminal managers’ consistency in integrating operational, safety, environmental, energy, and digitalisation aspects. ‘This award motivates us to gradually improve terminal management standards. We will also encourage other terminals within Pelindo Terminal Petikemas to continue strengthening the application of green and smart port principles according to the characteristics and needs of each terminal,’ he said.
Widyaswendra added that the transformation of green and smart ports requires collaboration between the government, terminal operators, service users, shipping companies, stevedoring workers, and all stakeholders in the port ecosystem. ‘This collaboration is necessary because implementing green and smart ports is not only related to building physical facilities but also includes improving governance, strengthening safety culture, resource efficiency, and integrating digital-based service systems,’ he concluded.
