Pelindo Conducts Emission Tests on 500 Logistics Vehicles in Four Cities
In the run-up to the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, state-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, has launched the Merdeka Emisi programme, involving emission tests on operational and logistics vehicles operating within port areas. The programme was carried out simultaneously in Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, and Makassar, involving around 500 vehicles.
At Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta, 200 vehicles underwent emission testing on Thursday (13/8). The majority were container trucks that serve logistics activities in the port area on a daily basis.
The high volume of vehicle movement is an aspect that requires attention in environmental management within port areas. Through Merdeka Emisi, Pelindo is encouraging transport companies, drivers, and logistics business operators to jointly maintain vehicle conditions and comply with applicable emission standards.
The event at Tanjung Priok was attended by Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana, Deputy President Director of Pelindo Drajat Sulistyo, Pelindo Group management, as well as representatives from logistics associations and business operators.
Suntana said that efforts to maintain air quality in port areas require the involvement of all parties operating within them.
“Ports are transport nodes with very high vehicle movement. Controlling vehicle emissions is an important part of maintaining air quality and promoting a more sustainable transport system. Efforts like this need to be carried out jointly by port operators, transport companies, and logistics business operators,” he said.
Deputy President Director of Pelindo Drajat Sulistyo said the Merdeka Emisi programme is part of Pelindo’s steps towards more environmentally friendly port management.
“Every day thousands of vehicles enter and leave the port area. Therefore, efforts towards a Green Port need to involve the entire ecosystem that works and operates within the port. Merdeka Emisi is one of the ways we invite logistics operators to take part,” said Drajat.
According to Drajat, the spirit of Merdeka Emisi is also in line with the momentum of Indonesia’s Independence Day commemoration.
“We want this year’s spirit of independence to carry a simple message that a cleaner port environment requires our collective role. One way is by ensuring that the vehicles used daily are well maintained and their emissions meet standards,” he said.
