Pekijing Village, Serang City, Banten, is strengthening the implementation of the Government Regulation (PP) on Child Protection in the Digital Environment, or PP Tunas, through enhancing literacy and preserving traditional games. “This step is taken as a concrete effort to limit children’s dependence on social media and gadgets at the grassroots level,” said Bayu Ibrahim, Manager of Pekijing Library, in Serang on Sunday. He revealed that the initiative to introduce traditional games, which began in 2023, has proven effective in supporting the spirit of PP Tunas. By diverting children’s attention to communal physical activities, excessive digital interactions can be naturally suppressed. “We are grateful that our steps align with the government’s efforts through PP Tunas in limiting social media. Traditional games have proven very effective; children are now more engaged in playing together physically and are beginning to leave their dependence on mobile phones,” said Bayu. Bayu emphasised that this process is carried out persuasively by providing education on the positive and negative impacts of technology to children every three months. Full support comes from parents who feel helped by the gadget restrictions through these reading and playing activities. Madi, one of the parents in Pekijing Village, admitted that the changes in his child’s character and academics have been very noticeable since becoming active in the library. Thanks to the consistency in guiding literacy and child protection, Pekijing Village has received various national and provincial awards. In addition to being designated as Indonesia Shared Space (RBI) in 2025, the village also won the title of Best Village Library at the Banten Province level and produced the Best National Librarian. The combination of government regulations and local wisdom in Pekijing Village is now becoming a model for a healthy environment for child growth and development in the digital transformation era.
