Pekayon TPS in East Jakarta effectively handles 120 tonnes of waste per day
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Environmental Agency states that the temporary waste shelter (TPS) on Jalan Raya Bogor, RW 02, Pekayon, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, is effectively handling 120 tonnes of waste per day.
“From these six large tipper trucks, the total waste transported reaches around 120 tonnes per day. The disposal schedule to Bantargebang is divided into three shifts each day,” said Marudin, staff from the Pasar Rebo Sub-district Environmental Implementation Unit, when confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.
He explained that every day, there are six large tipper trucks with a capacity of 10 tonnes each transporting waste from the TPS. Each truck averages two trips.
The waste disposal quota for Pasar Rebo Sub-district to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) in Bekasi, West Java, is limited to a maximum of 14 trips per day.
The six large trucks can handle 12 trips, plus one truck from the Kopassus Cijantung Complex contributing two trips of waste transport.
So far, said Marudin, the operations of the RW 02 Pekayon shelter are running optimally. No waste accumulation has been found at the site, even though waste supplies from residents continue to flow in every day.
“The transport fleet also works routinely according to schedule, so the waste management system remains under control during the transition period,” said Marudin.
Although the TPS is located in Pekayon, the facility can be used to accommodate waste from five villages in Pasar Rebo Sub-district, namely Pekayon, Cijantung, Baru, Kalisari, and Gedong.
“This shelter serves as a temporary transit point for all waste from residential areas. Waste transported using small vehicles, such as germor (motorised carts) or other operational vehicles, is transferred to large trucks before being disposed of at TPST Bantargebang,” explained Ahmad.
He stated that the shelter began operating on Thursday (2/4) as a temporary transitional solution from the TPS on Jalan Pendidikan, Cijantung Village.
During the transition period, the waste transportation process has run smoothly without significant obstacles.
The waste entering the shelter generally comes from residential areas, previously transported using small vehicles. With the shelter in place, the transfer to large trucks has become more organised and efficient.
In addition to the shelter, efforts to reduce the volume of waste sent to TPST Bantargebang are being carried out through source-based waste sorting programmes.
All RW in Pasar Rebo Sub-district now have waste banks, encouraging the community to sort waste from households. Even several mosques in the area have implemented similar programmes.
“The government is encouraging the public to start reducing waste volume and sorting it from the source, namely households, to manage disposal at TPST Bantargebang,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Tuesday (7/4).
He mentioned that his side is collaborating with the Ciracas Plastic Recycling Centre (PDUP) to manage inorganic waste.
In addition, the Waste Bank Task Force (Satgas) in each village, formed through the Mayor’s Circular Letter No. e-0005/SE/2026, is being optimised in its role.
The task force is responsible for coordinating the delivery of inorganic waste from Waste Bank Units to PDUP Ciracas, while also reporting activities through the provided online system.
Meanwhile, the Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH) targets that waste transportation operations to TPST Bantargebang can return to normal this week.
All DLH Jakarta units are working maximally to restore conditions quickly and ensure waste transportation services continue to run optimally.
