Pekanbaru's SSK II Airport Implements Temporary Operational Hour Changes
Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport in Pekanbaru, Riau Province, is temporarily changing its operating hours in connection with runway soil strength testing.
General Manager of Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport Pekanbaru, Achmad, speaking in Pekanbaru on Monday, apologised for the inconvenience caused.
He said the change in operating hours was being made in connection with pile integrity test (PIT) and California bearing ratio (CBR) fieldwork.
“This PIT and field CBR testing is being carried out to test soil strength, with the aim of improving the airport’s safety and service aspects. The implementation of this work has also been coordinated with all stakeholders, including the airlines,” said Achmad.
The change in the airport’s operating hours, he continued, takes effect from Tuesday (28/7/2026) until 11 August 2026.
On 28 and 30 July as well as 6 and 11 August 2026, the airport will operate from 06.00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) to 15.00 WIB.
He also stressed that the change is temporary.
After that period, the airport’s operating hours will return to normal, from 06.00 WIB to 21.00 WIB.
“We informed the airlines several months in advance, so affected passengers have already received early notification,” said Achmad.
A PIT is a test pit in the form of a shallow excavation made manually or with heavy machinery to observe soil layers directly.
Meanwhile, a field CBR is a civil engineering testing method used to measure the strength or bearing capacity of the subgrade soil directly at the project site.
