Pekanbaru's 242nd Anniversary to Feature One-Kilometre Durian Talam Cake
A range of activities has been prepared to enliven the celebrations of the anniversary of the provincial capital of Riau. Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho said this year’s anniversary will feature many different elements. One of the planned events is a culinary festival presenting a one-kilometre durian kue talam.
Mayor Agung said the one-kilometre durian kue talam is a participation by Pekanbaru’s local UMKM. Even for the event itself, it will be conducted without using the regional budget (APBD).
“Just imagine, for a 20 cm piece of durian kue talam you need one tray of batter. So how many trays are needed for one kilometre? Alhamdulillah this is the participation of the MSME community,” said Mayor Agung on Friday (22 May 2026).
In the upcoming event, he added, the durian kue talam served will be distributed to the public at Pekanbaru’s Car Free Day (CFD). Everyone can enjoy it free of charge. In addition, the presentation of the one-kilometre durian kue talam will be recorded by the Muri record.
“There are already many MSME communities participating in this festival. Those who are still interested in joining, please register directly with the committee. You may include your business name. We will publish it later,” Mayor Agung said.
In addition to the culinary festival, the committee for Pekanbaru’s 242nd anniversary has also begun preparing a number of other agendas. The Pekanbaru City Government is said to be presenting various activities that directly touch the community.
Moreover, the Pekanbaru City Government is preparing a ‘special gift’ for the people in the form of policies that can be utilised by the public and have broad impact.
As an illustration, during the previous Pekanbaru anniversary, the city government issued a number of policies that received positive public responses, including free parking in shopping centres, markets, hospitals, and free bus rides on the Trans Metro Pekanbaru.
