Pekanbaru's 242nd Anniversary Durian Festival Breaks MURI Record

A festival featuring a one-kilometre-long durian sticky rice cake (kue talam ketan durian) to mark the 242nd anniversary of Pekanbaru, held at the Car Free Day area on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman on Sunday morning, successfully broke a MURI record.

Lutfi Syah Pradana, Customer Relation Manager of the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI), who attended the event, stated that the festival, organised by the Pekanbaru City Government in collaboration with local MSMEs, was the longest in the world.

“Based on verification, today the Indonesian World Records Museum officially declares that this Durian Sticky Rice Cake Festival is the longest, not only in Indonesia but also in the world,” he said.

He added that MURI expressed its appreciation and pride over the festival’s success. “The Indonesian World Records Museum, with all humility and great pride, will present a certificate of appreciation to the Pekanbaru City Government,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all parties who collaborated to make the festival a success. “Thank you also to all the people who came and made this event successful. Honestly, this was beyond expectations. I did not think the public would turn out in such numbers. But the people of Pekanbaru who came today were extraordinary,” he said.

The festival, organised by the Pekanbaru City Government in collaboration with MSMEs, was attended by hundreds of thousands of people, not only from Pekanbaru but also from outside the city and even from outside Sumatra Island.
