Pekanbaru Secures MURI Record for Simultaneous Surah Al-Mulk Recitation by 9,184 Civil Servants

The Pekanbaru City Government has once again achieved national recognition by securing an award from the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for the largest number of civil servants (ASN) reciting Surah Al-Mulk simultaneously in Indonesia. A total of 9,184 ASN participated in the recitation in the courtyard of the An Nur Mosque. MURI representative Andre Purwandono stated that the event surpassed the committee’s initial target of 5,000 ASN. He expressed hope that the record would not merely be a ceremonial achievement, but a collective effort to make Pekanbaru more advanced, prosperous, safe, and beloved by its residents. As a token of appreciation, MURI presented a certificate and a record medal to Mayor Agung Nugroho and the Deputy Mayor. Mayor Agung Nugroho revealed that the idea to break the MURI record through the recitation of Surah Al-Mulk came from his wife, Sulastri. The series of events for Pekanbaru’s 242nd anniversary was concluded with a grand tabligh akbar that prioritised religious activities and provided direct benefits to the community. He noted that, similar to previous years, the city opted not to multiply ceremonial activities that consume the budget, instead choosing events that offer direct benefits to the public and align with Islamic values. The Mayor also expressed his appreciation to Ustaz Da’as Latif for attending and delivering a sermon to the thousands of attendees. He added that the choice of Surah Al-Mulk carries a profound meaning, serving as a reminder that all power, position, and trust belong to Allah SWT, and that the mandate carried by officials and civil servants should encourage humility and improved public service.
