Pekanbaru Recovers, Hotspots Eradicated, Children Return to School

The Pekanbaru City Government has ensured that the forest and land fire conditions within the city area are increasingly under control. Currently, fire hotspots in Pekanbaru City have reached zero.

As air conditions improve following rainfall, teaching and learning activities in Pekanbaru have returned to normal. Children have returned to face-to-face learning in schools after previously being moved to online learning to protect students’ health from the impacts of haze.

The Mayor of Pekanbul, Agung Nugroho, stated that this condition is the result of collaborative efforts between all elements of the government, the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), Polri (National Police), BPBD (Regional Disaster Management Agency), firefighters, volunteers, and the community members who continue to protect their environment.

“Alhamdulillah, fire hotspots in Pekanbaru are currently at zero. This is the result of the hard work of all parties and the prayers of the community. However, we must not be complacent. Preparedness must be maintained,” said Agung.

He emphasised that the decision to return to face-to-face learning was made with a principle of caution, always prioritising the safety of children.

“When air conditions were unsafe, we took swift action to ensure children were protected. When conditions improved, schools reopened. The safety and health of children remain our top priority,” he asserted.

The Pekanbaru City Government expressed appreciation for the patience of parents, teachers, healthcare workers, and the entire community during the haze management period. The government also urged the public not to clear land through burning and to report immediately via the free TRC 112 Pekanbaru AMAN service if any potential fire is discovered.
