Pekanbaru Mayor Rejects Bribes Ahead of Eid al-Fitr

INFO TEMPO - Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho reaffirmed his commitment to uphold integrity and transparency in government administration by rejecting all forms of gratification connected to his office. The assertion was conveyed through an official notification addressed to all officials within the Pekanbaru City Government, civil servants, leaders of state-owned enterprises (BUMD), and all stakeholders and the people of Pekanbaru. In the notification, the Mayor stressed that he does not accept gifts of any form—money, parcels, goods, or any other form of offering related to his role as Mayor. He also stated that he has never appointed, instructed, or authorised anyone to receive gifts on his behalf. If anyone claims to represent the Mayor to solicit or receive gifts, such claims are false and outside the Mayor’s knowledge or consent. The Mayor emphasised that the integrity principle applies across all government processes, including promotions and postings, policy decisions, programme implementation, and the execution of government projects and activities. No gift or consideration in any form can influence any decision taken in fulfilling the duties of the Mayor. He described this commitment as part of an effort to create a government that is clean, high-integrity, and free from gratification, bribery, or conflicts of interest in Pekanbaru. Through this occasion, the Mayor called on all levels of Pekanbaru City Government and the public to work together to uphold integrity, shun corrupt practices, and build a government culture that is clean for the city’s progress. ‘The momentum of welcoming Eid al-Fitr serves as a reminder for us all to return to values of honesty, trust and responsibility in carrying out tasks and serving the public,’ he said. The Pekanbaru City Government remains committed to strengthening governance that is transparent and accountable to realise a Pekanbaru that is advanced, of integrity, and trusted by the people.
