Pekanbaru Mayor Issues Two Circulars Calling for World Peace Prayers
Amid ongoing conflicts and tensions around the world that have caused humanitarian suffering, Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho has issued two circulars as a gesture of concern and a moral appeal to the public to pray for world peace.
The calls are laid out in two circulars addressed to all segments of Pekanbaru’s society, including interfaith groups and, specifically, Muslims observing the holy month of Ramadan.
Through Circular Letter No. 27/SE/2026 on the Call for Prayer and Reflection for World Peace, the Pekanbaru Mayor invites leaders of houses of worship, religious figures, and interfaith community leaders in Pekanbaru to lead prayers and reflections in accordance with each faith’s teachings.
These calls are intended to be a shared reminder of the importance of upholding humanitarian values, strengthening the spirit of compassion, and continuing to nurture harmony and brotherhood amid the diversity of Pekanbaru’s community.
In line with the momentum of the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims currently observing it, the Pekanbaru Mayor also issued Circular Letter No. 26/SE/2026 on the Call for Prayer for World Peace during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH.
Through the circular, mosque and prayer-hall administrators, imams, and khatibs in Pekanbaru are urged to invite worshippers to intensify prayers for world peace, particularly after the obligatory prayers, Tarawih, and Witr.
The prayers are expected to be supplications to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala to stop bloodshed, to avert humanity from war, and to grant safety and peace for the entire country.
The circular also recommends weaving prayers for peace into the qunut of the Witr prayer and reminds Muslims to maintain unity, spread calm, and not to be easily provoked by information whose veracity is unclear.
Agung stated that concern for world peace is part of the humanitarian values that must be continually safeguarded.
“When in various places there are still brothers and sisters living in fear and suffering due to conflict, we from Pekanbaru want to bring care, hope, and prayers. May Allah grant safety and peace for the world,” said Agung on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
He also hopes that Pekanbaru, as the capital of Riau Province, can continue to be a city that offers calm, fosters brotherhood, and serves as an example in nurturing harmony and humanitarian values.
Through these two circulars, the Pekanbaru City Government invites all residents to keep growing compassion, maintain unity, and bring the values of peace into everyday community life.
