Pekanbaru Mayor Increases Quota for Sahur On The Road Programme to 1,500 Motorcycle Taxi Drivers
Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho has increased the quota for participants in the Sahur On The Road programme. The quota expansion was made in response to the high enthusiasm of participants wishing to register for the Sahur On The Road event through the Pekanbaru City Government.
The total participant quota for motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers has been set at 1,500 participants, an increase from the initial plan which was to accommodate only 1,000 participants.
“Seeing the high enthusiasm, we decided to increase the quota to 1,500 people,” said Mayor Agung on Friday, 27 February 2026. Registration remains open until Friday evening. Muslim ojol drivers will receive assistance from Baznas, whilst “those from non-Muslim backgrounds will receive assistance from me personally,” he added.
Previously, Pekanbaru City Government announced that it would organise the Sahur On The Road event together with thousands of motorcycle taxi drivers on Sunday, 1 March 2026. Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho and Deputy Mayor Markarius Anwar will join thousands of ojol drivers for the event, which will be centred at Taman Labuai Citywalk.
The event is scheduled to commence at 03.00 WIB. There will be religious sermons followed by communal breakfast with the mayor. “I invite all of us to attend the Sahur On The Road event. We will pray together, listen to sermons, and share together,” said Mayor Agung.
According to him, the event is designed for 1,000 ojol drivers, with each participating driver receiving financial assistance of Rp200,000. The funding comes from Baznas RI, with additional prizes including 5 Honda Beat motorcycles verified by Baznas. “There is also an additional prize of 1 Honda Beat from Bank Riau Kepri Syariah. I am grateful to Baznas and Bank Riau Kepri for their support in advancing the welfare and success of this event. I hope it will be beneficial for us all,” he said.
