Pekanbaru Mayor Calls for Global Peace Prayers During Ramadan
The Mayor of Pekanbaru, H. Agung Nugroho, issued two circulars containing calls for prayers and reflections for world peace amid various ongoing global conflicts. Circular Letter Number 27/SE/2026 on the Call for Prayer and Reflection for World Peace is addressed to leaders of houses of worship, religious figures, and interfaith community leaders in Pekanbaru City. The city government calls on all elements of society to offer prayers in accordance with their respective religious teachings as a form of humanitarian concern. In addition, Agung also issued Circular Letter Number 26/SE/2026 on the Call for Prayer for World Peace in the Holy Month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri. This circular is specifically directed at mosque and musalla administrators, imams, and khatibs to urge congregants to multiply prayers for world peace, especially after the obligatory prayers, Tarawih, and Witr. In the circular, prayers for peace are recommended to be inserted into the qunut of the Witr prayer. The Muslim community is also urged to maintain unity and not be easily provoked by unverified information. Agung said concern for world peace is part of humanitarian values. “From Pekanbaru, we want to bring care and hope so that the world may be granted safety and peace,” he said. The Pekanbaru City Government hopes this momentum will strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and maintain harmony amid the diversity of the community.
