Pekanbaru Infrastructure Development Continues Amid Fiscal Pressure

This is visible on Jalan Beringin in the Sungai Sibam area. The road, which was previously still a dirt track, severely damaged, and long untouched by development, has now been smoothly asphalted. The area is home to many residents who need access to work, school, healthcare services, and economic activity.

“Fiscal space may be limited, but services to the public must not stop. The key is setting priorities, maintaining budget discipline, and ensuring every rupiah truly returns to the people in the form of real development,” said Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho.

Agung emphasised that development is indeed funded by the people’s money and is the government’s obligation. However, leadership is tested by the ability to manage limitations, execute programmes, monitor quality, and ensure the results are genuinely felt by the community.

The Pekanbaru municipal government will also continue drainage improvements so that the roads remain durable and the area is less prone to flooding.
