Pekanbaru drops tap water contract

PEKANBARU, Riau: The Pekanbaru municipal administration is
considering inviting French company Lyonese and other investors
to enter an agreement to supply tap water for the city.

Mayor Herman Abdullah said here on Saturday the plan followed
his decision to revoke the contract with PT Cascal, an investor
appointed to manage tap water for the city.

"Both parties have agreed to end the contract amicably as the
company had delayed the project three times on the grounds that
it was short of funds and we could not wait any longer." Herman
said.

The French company has partnered with Jakarta tap water
company PDAM Jaya. Their area of service covers the western part
of the capital city. --Antara
