Pekanbaru City's 242nd Anniversary to Feature a One-Kilometre Durian Talam Cake

Pekanbaru City Government is preparing a series of events for the 242nd anniversary of Pekanbaru, to be celebrated on 23 June 2026, which will differ from previous years. One of the planned activities is a culinary festival featuring a durian talam cake stretching one kilometre. “Imagine, for a 20 cm piece of durian talam cake you need one tray of batter. So how many trays of batter for 1 kilometre? Alhamdulillah, this represents participation by UMKM communities,” said Mayor Agung, confirming the event will not use the city budget (APBD). The durian talam cake will be distributed to the public at the Pekanbaru Car Free Day (CFD). Everyone can enjoy it for free. In addition, the display of the durian talam cake along the one-kilometre length will be recorded by MURI (The Indonesian World Records Museum).

“Many UMKM communities have already participated in the festival. For those still interested in joining, please register with the committee; you may include the name of your business. We will publish it,” the Mayor said.

In addition to the culinary festival, the committee for Pekanbaru’s 242nd anniversary has begun preparing other activities. The Pekanbaru City Government is said to be presenting various events that directly reach the community. Furthermore, the city government is preparing a “special gift” for the public in the form of policies that communities can utilise and that will have broad impact.

As an illustration, during the previous anniversary, the Pekanbaru City Government introduced policies that received positive public responses, including free parking in shopping centres, markets, and hospitals, as well as free bus services on the Trans Metro Pekanbaru. The Pekanbaru City Government calls on the public to join in celebrating Pekanbaru’s 242nd anniversary by participating in the various events that will be announced soon.
