Pekanbaru Breaks MURI World Record with 1.1-Kilometre Durian Talam Cake
KOTA Pekanbaru has once again achieved a proud milestone at the national and international level. In celebration of Pekanbaru’s 242nd anniversary, a distinctive local culinary creation successfully made history by breaking a world record. The success was marked by the designation of the World’s Longest Durian Talam Cake Festival as a MURI record holder. The durian talam cake stretched 1.1 kilometres along Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, precisely from the Pekanbaru Public Service Mall (MPP) office to the RRI Pekanbaru office.
Wali Kota Pekanbaru, Agung Nugroho, expressed gratitude for the achievement. He stated that the success is tangible proof of the collaborative spirit of all elements of society in developing the region. “Alhamdulillah, today Pekanbaru City has once again recorded a MURI record. If last year we recorded a MURI record for the world’s largest mass wedding, today we have succeeded in recording a new record, namely the World’s Longest Durian Talam Cake Festival,” he said on Sunday (21/6). “This durian talam cake is 1.1 kilometres long and has been displayed along Jalan Sudirman. From the Pekanbaru Public Service Mall to the front of the RRI Pekanbaru office, the cake can be enjoyed together,” he added.
He explained that this world record achievement is not merely a ceremonial feat. More than that, it symbolises the unity and mutual cooperation of all parties in promoting the region’s potential, especially Pekanbaru’s distinctive culinary heritage. He assessed that the festival also serves as an effective promotional tool to introduce the region’s cultural and culinary wealth to a wider audience. Durian, which has long been one of Riau’s leading commodities, has also gained increased attention through this activity. “With its official designation as the world’s longest, this is certainly a gift for Pekanbaru City’s anniversary. At the same time, it is proof that we can collaborate and take action together,” he stated.
Meanwhile, MURI Customer Relation Manager Lutfi Syah Pradana said that his team had conducted a thorough measurement of the durian talam cake arranged along the festival route. The measurement results showed that the culinary creation met the standards to be designated as a world record. “We went directly to the location to verify. We measured the length of the talam durian in detail, so the team officially confirmed that it deserves the MURI World Record,” he said. He revealed that the record was established after the MURI team carried out a series of on-site verifications. The inspection process was conducted in detail to ensure all requirements for breaking the record were met. “Thus, the durian talam cake arrangement in Pekanbaru City is the longest, not only in Indonesia but the longest in the world. Therefore, we present the certificate of appreciation to the Pekanbaru City Government,” he concluded.
