Pekalongan receives dengue award
SEMARANG: The Pekalongan administration in Central Java
received an award from the Ministry of Health for its success in
preventing an outbreak of dengue fever.
"We hope that other regions in Central Java will emulate the
success of Pekalongan in eradicating dengue," Central Java health
office head Krishnajaya said in the provincial capital of
Semarang.
He said that Pekalongan managed to avoid a nationwide outbreak
of dengue as its government and people had taken action to
eliminate mosquito breading places.
"Dengue is not only connected with the rainy season. The most
important thing is for us to maintain a clean environment in our
homes," Krishnajaya said.
He said that the mosquitoes that carried dengue fever
preferred to breed in receptacles containing clean water.
Dengue has killed hundreds of people across the country over
the past few months. The government has provided free medical
treatment to patients hospitalized with the disease. -- Antara
