Pekalongan Proposed for Inclusion in Giant Sea Wall Project for North Java Coast
Pekalongan is proposed to be included in the giant sea wall project for the North Coast of Java. On Wednesday, 1 April 2026, at 18:52 WIB, aerial photos show settlements near tidal flooding inundating residents’ land in Pekalongan, Central Java. Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo has proposed to the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ) that Pekalongan be included as a prioritised area in the construction of the giant sea wall (GSW) in the first phase, in addition to Jakarta Bay and Semarang-Kendal-Demak.
