Ahead of the mudik and balik Lebaran 2026, the Pekalongan City Department of Transportation (Dishub) in collaboration with the Pekalongan Police Traffic Unit conducted a vehicle roadworthiness check, or ramp check, on bus fleets that would be used for mudik transportation. The inspections were carried out at several bus pools in the Pekalongan area on Thursday night, 5 March 2026.

Head of the Transport and Operational Traffic Control Section at Pekalongan Dishub, Endang Kostaman, said the vehicle roadworthiness checks were part of the Lebaran transport preparations for 2026.

‘Tonight’s activity is part of the Lebaran 2026 transport preparations, one of which is ramp checks on the bus fleets that will be used for mudik,’ Endang said.

Endang explained that the checks were not limited to a single location; they were conducted at several bus company pools across Pekalongan. Four locations were checked: Panjang, Kedungwuni, Safira, and another area.

‘We are inspecting a number of important vehicle components to ensure the fleets are fit to carry mudik passengers. The indicators cover nine items, ranging from braking systems, lighting, engine condition, vehicle equipment, to tyre condition.’

Endang noted that from the initial results, most of the fleets were still in good condition. However, they gave the operators some notes to carry out repairs on several components. ‘For example, earlier there was a rear tyre nearing wear limits, but the bus owner said they would replace it soon,’ Endang said.

According to Endang, the four locations visited would see around twenty to twenty-five buses prepared to serve mudik. ‘From the four locations we visited, there are roughly 24 to 25 buses prepared for mudik,’ Endang said.

Endang added that besides vehicle checks, Dishub also urged bus company owners to pay attention to the age of the vehicles being used. ‘Technically, vehicles that meet the requirements usually have an age of around five years; that is what we are urging bus owners to observe,’ Endang said.

Pekalongan’s Traffic Unit Chief, AKP Andi Susanto, explained that ramp checks are conducted to ensure the safety of mudik travellers during the journey. From the inspection at one bus company, all the fleets inspected were in good condition and ready to operate.

‘Praise be to God, all the inspection results were in good condition, both in terms of documents and vehicle equipment, all ready,’ Andi said.

According to Andi, vehicle readiness is a crucial factor in preventing traffic accidents during Lebaran transport. Its main aim is to ensure the safety of travellers so that the mudik journey can proceed safely and comfortably.

In addition to vehicle checks, Satlantas also conducts health checks for bus drivers to ensure they are in prime condition for driving. ‘We also conduct health checks such as urine tests and blood pressure checks for drivers at Pekalongan City Terminal,’ he said.

He added that the authorities would also implement a pilot ride programme for mudik motorcyclists in Central Java as part of efforts to enhance safety during the mudik. ‘For motorcycles, riders will be loaded onto towing vehicles, while the travellers will be transported using the buses that have been prepared. They will be escorted all the way to Semarang,’ he explained.

Meanwhile, the owner of RD Trans, a travel bus company, Wiwin Sulistiono, said they had prepared fleets to meet travel needs during Lebaran. In Pekalongan, they had prepared three buses, with others based in Yogyakarta.

‘The buses are planned to serve the Pekalongan–Jakarta and Jakarta–Purbalingga routes during the mudik period. The routes are Pekalongan–Jakarta and Jakarta–Purbalingga,’ Wiwin said. (E-2)
