Pegadaian Supports 2,000 Trees Programme in East Kalimantan to Boost Green Initiative

PT Pegadaian (Persero) Area Samarinda has taken part in the ‘2,000 Trees for East Kalimantan’ programme held at the Pampang Cultural Village in Samarinda. The activity forms part of the company’s ongoing implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The greening programme, which took place on 7 June 2026, involved various community elements, including government, businesses, communities, academics, and young people concerned about environmental issues. The activity was a collaboration between Gerbangtara, Enable Project, World Cleanup Day (WCD) East Kalimantan, the local government, the private sector, academics, and the community. The President’s Special Staff for SMEs and Digital Technology, Tiar Nabilla Karbala, was also present to show support for the environmental conservation and sustainable development movement. Deputy Business Manager of PT Pegadaian Area Samarinda, Andika Dwi Prastyo, stated that planting trees is a simple step with a significant impact on the future sustainability of the environment. ‘Through this activity, we, together with various parties, are taking real action to improve the quality of the living environment,’ Andika said. He noted that environmental protection cannot be done by one party alone, requiring cross-sector collaboration for a broader and more sustainable impact. ‘This programme shows that collaboration between businesses, government, communities, and the younger generation can produce a positive impact on the environment,’ he added. Andika also expressed appreciation for the young people of East Kalimantan who were the main drivers of the greening activity. He hopes the tree-planting movement will not stop as a ceremonial event but will become a growing culture within society. Furthermore, Andika affirmed that Pegadaian’s participation aligns with the company’s commitment to implementing ESG principles through various programmes that benefit society and the environment. In addition to providing inclusive financial services, Pegadaian actively runs social programmes, community empowerment, financial literacy improvement, and support for environmentally sustainable activities. Through the ‘2,000 Trees for East Kalimantan’ programme, Pegadaian hopes to contribute to creating a greener and healthier environment while raising public awareness of the importance of protecting the ecosystem. Meanwhile, Regional Head of PT Pegadaian Regional Office IV Balikpapan, Rinaldi Lubis, conveyed that Pegadaian’s involvement is a corporate commitment to supporting sustainable development through ESG principles. ‘Pegadaian not only focuses on community economic empowerment through inclusive financial services but also has a responsibility to contribute to environmental sustainability. Participation in this 2,000 Trees Programme is part of our effort to create a sustainable positive impact for society and the environment,’ Rinaldi said. He emphasised that environmental issues are a shared responsibility requiring synergy from various parties to provide long-term benefits for future generations. Rinaldi affirmed that Pegadaian will continue to support programmes aligned with sustainable development goals and provide added value for the environment and communities across the Regional Office IV Balikpapan working area.
