Pegadaian Supports 2,000 Trees Programme in East Kalimantan for Sustainable Environment
PT Pegadaian (Persero) Samarinda Area demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation by participating in the ‘2,000 Trees for Kalimantan Timur’ programme in Desa Budaya Pampang, Samarinda, on 7 June 2026. The activity is part of the company’s ongoing implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
The greening programme involved various elements of society, including government, businesses, communities, academics, and youth groups with a concern for environmental issues, such as Gerbangtara, Enable Project, and World Cleanup Day East Kalimantan. “Through this activity, we are taking real action together with various parties to improve environmental quality,” said Andika Dwi Prastyo, Deputy Business Officer of PT Pegadaian Samarinda Area, on Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
He noted that tree planting is a simple step with a significant impact on the future sustainability of the environment. He stressed that environmental stewardship cannot be undertaken by a single party alone. “This programme shows that collaboration between businesses, government, communities, and the younger generation can yield a positive impact on the environment,” he said.
Andika also expressed appreciation for the young people of East Kalimantan who were the main drivers of the greening activity. The tree-planting movement, which was attended by the President’s Special Staff for MSMEs and Digital Technology, Tiar Nabilla Karbala, is expected to become more than just a ceremonial event, evolving instead into a culture that continues to grow within society. “We hope this tree-planting movement will be a concrete step in supporting sustainable development,” he said.
According to Andika, Pegadaian’s participation in the programme aligns with the company’s commitment to implementing ESG principles through various initiatives that benefit society and the environment. In addition to providing inclusive financial services, Pegadaian actively runs social programmes, community empowerment, financial literacy improvement, and support for environmentally oriented activities.
Through the ‘2,000 Trees for East Kalimantan’ programme, Pegadaian hopes to contribute to creating a greener and healthier environment while raising public awareness about the importance of preserving the ecosystem. “The collaboration established in this activity is expected to inspire more parties to take part in safeguarding environmental sustainability for the sake of future generations,” Andika said.
Meanwhile, Rinaldi Lubis, Regional Head of PT Pegadaian Kanwil IV Balikpapan, stated that Pegadaian’s involvement in the programme is a tangible manifestation of the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable development through the application of ESG principles. “Pegadaian not only focuses on community economic empowerment through inclusive financial services but also has a responsibility to contribute to environmental conservation. Our participation in the 2,000 Trees Programme is part of our efforts to create a sustainable positive impact for society and the environment,” he said.
He added that environmental issues are a shared responsibility requiring synergy from various parties to provide long-term benefits for future generations. “We believe that collaboration between government, businesses, communities, academics, and the public is key to addressing current environmental challenges.” Through this activity, he hopes to foster collective awareness that every small step, such as planting a tree, makes a significant contribution to a greener and more sustainable future for the earth. Pegadaian, Rinaldi said, will continue to support various programmes aligned with sustainable development goals and provide added value for the environment and communities throughout the working area of Kanwil IV Balikpapan.
