Pegadaian Subsidiary Expands Ride-Hailing Fleet for Driver Partners
PT Pesonna Optima Jasa (POJ), a grand-subsidiary of Pegadaian, has officially entered into a strategic collaboration with PT Trans Optima Perkasa (TOP) to broaden access to vehicle ownership and rental for ride-hailing service driver partners. As an initial step in this joint commitment, the two companies handed over 250 ready-to-use vehicles on Thursday (9/7), which will be directly allocated to strengthen the operations of Gojek driver partners.
This move is not only a mobility solution but a tangible manifestation of corporate contribution in creating sustainable independent employment, whilst supporting the national agenda of reducing carbon emissions through the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles.
Of the total vehicles handed over, 200 units are internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles running on petrol, whilst the remaining 50 units are electric vehicles (EVs). The presence of the electric fleet is part of the company’s commitment to supporting carbon emission reduction efforts.
PT POJ Director Ferry Hariawan affirmed that the partnership with TOP serves as a strategic anchor to strengthen the urban transport ecosystem whilst providing an economic cushion for productive members of society.
“Through this collaboration, there is one main social impact that we are directly targeting, namely reducing the unemployment rate. These cars are competitively rented out to ride-hailing company driver partners, particularly Gojek partners, so they can immediately become productive without the initial capital constraint of purchasing a vehicle,” Ferry Hariawan said in a written statement on Saturday (11/7/2026).
Ferry added that this phase is a pilot project which will be evaluated periodically. If it shows positive performance over the next three months, POJ and TOP have prepared a much more massive expansion blueprint.
“Currently we are releasing 250 fleet units. After a three-month evaluation, we are targeting to increase the total to 1,000 vehicles,” Ferry explained.
As part of the larger Pegadaian Group, PT POJ also carries a financial inclusion mission. This collaboration is being utilised as an entry point to introduce safe investment products to the digital ride-hailing ecosystem. Going forward, POJ will organise an integrated education programme on the importance of national gold investment, targeting both driver partners as a retirement guarantee and passengers through digital promotions within the fleet.
On the same occasion, PT Trans Optima Perkasa CEO Agung Beratha explained that the vehicle rental market niche for independent workers in the app-based transport sector still holds tremendous growth potential. Despite only being established for two years, TOP has managed to absorb 1,400 independent driver partners with an equivalent number of fleet units in the Greater Jakarta area. With the additional collaboration from POJ, the total active fleet managed by TOP has now surged sharply to 1,650 units.
“Amidst a dynamic global economic situation, more people are transitioning to independent work. TOP is here not just to rent out physical cars, but to provide a solution package: certainty of prime units, regulatory assurance, and income certainty for partners. They also benefit from not having to worry about daily costs and time for routine vehicle maintenance, as everything is managed by our system,” Agung Beratha stated.
Interestingly, Agung revealed a massive shift in driver preferences. Daily operational cost efficiency has caused demand for electric vehicles to soar.
“Demand for EVs from our driver partners is currently skyrocketing, reaching 80 percent. Responding to this enthusiasm, this year we are setting an aggressive target to operate at least 500 EV units on the road,” Agung added.
Seeing the solid foundation of this partnership, TOP and POJ are already eyeing a more expansive future business roadmap. Besides planning to expand four-wheeled vehicle services to tier-two cities in Indonesia, both corporations are currently conducting a feasibility study to enter a new business line, namely electric two-wheeler rentals to serve the courier logistics and passenger transport segments.
Through this collaboration, POJ and TOP hope to strengthen the supporting infrastructure for the ride-hailing industry, contribute to reducing carbon emissions, and provide easier vehicle access alternatives for people wishing to work as driver partners.
