Pegadaian Strengthens ESG Implementation Through Community Collaboration
The implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is increasingly being realised by companies through collaboration with local communities. This approach is considered effective in ensuring social programmes are well-targeted while broadening the impact felt by beneficiaries. This commitment was demonstrated by PT Pegadaian (Persero) Sharia Service Branch (CPS) Pondok Aren, which collaborated with the Sahabat Berbagi Tangerang Selatan community in a charitable event for orphans and underprivileged families. Through this activity, dozens of orphans and underprivileged families received social assistance in the form of basic food packages and cash donations. Beyond helping to meet the basic needs of the community, this activity also serves as an example of implementing the social aspect within the ESG framework through partnerships with communities that have direct closeness to the people. Cepi Kurnia Nugraha, Head of the Pegadaian CPS Pondok Aren Branch, stated that collaborating with social communities is one way to ensure the company’s aid reaches the groups that truly need it. He noted that partnerships with community organisations also strengthen the effectiveness of social programmes because local communities have a better understanding of the needs of the people in their area. “This collaborative activity is a tangible manifestation of PT Pegadaian’s concern for the community around our operational area, particularly in Pondok Aren. Through this charitable programme, we hope not only to ease the economic burden of our brothers and sisters in need but also to strengthen bonds of friendship and Islamic brotherhood,” said Cepi. He added that the cooperation with Sahabat Berbagi Tangsel is a strategic step to ensure aid is distributed on target and provides a direct impact on beneficiaries. As a state-owned enterprise, Pegadaian continues to expand various social responsibility programmes that touch the lives of the community. This effort is part of the company’s commitment to running a sustainable business while paying attention to social aspects alongside economic performance. Maryono, Regional Head of PT Pegadaian Region IX Jakarta 2, emphasised that the activity is a real implementation of the ESG Social Pillar which is continuously being strengthened within the company. According to him, a company’s existence is not only required to create economic value but also to provide added value to the community through impactful programmes. “Pegadaian nationally, especially in Region IX Jakarta 2, continues to commit to integrating ESG pillars into every line of business and social activity. This charitable event with Sahabat Berbagi Tangsel is a representation of strengthening our ESG Social Pillar,” said Maryono. He assessed that synergy between the business sector and local communities plays an important role in addressing various social issues still faced by society, including vulnerable groups such as orphans and underprivileged families. Beyond providing social assistance, the activity also reflects the company’s efforts to build sustainable social investment through equal and transparent partnerships. This approach allows the benefits of the programme to be felt directly by the community while strengthening the relationship between the company and its surrounding environment. The programme is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the first goal of ending poverty and the tenth goal of reducing inequality. Through such collaborations, ESG implementation not only becomes part of the corporate strategy but also manifests in real actions that provide direct benefits to the community.
