PT Pegadaian (Persero) has reported alleged violations committed by the former head of the Sharia Pawnshop Unit (UPS) Pondok Jaya, South Tangerang, Banten, to law enforcement after discovering indications of fraud based on an internal audit that could potentially cause losses to the company. “The management of PT Pegadaian (Persero) respects and fully entrusts the handling of the UPS Pondok Jaya case to law enforcement, so that the perpetrator is processed in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations,” said Pegadaian Corporate Secretary Dwi Hadi Atmaka in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday. The company stated that the indications of fraud were discovered through an internal audit report on 30 June 2025, allegedly carried out by Tri Arief Budiyanto during his tenure as Head of UPS Pondok Jaya. After conducting an internal investigation, Pegadaian confirmed that no customers or members of the public were harmed in the case. The company also imposed a sanction of termination of employment against the individual, effective from 1 November 2025. As a follow-up, Pegadaian reported the former employee to the South Tangerang City District Attorney’s Office on 18 December 2025. Following an investigation, the individual was named a suspect on 22 June 2026. Pegadaian emphasised that it does not tolerate criminal acts or employee behaviour that contradicts laws and regulations, the company’s internal policies, or its corporate cultural values. According to the company, this legal action is a form of commitment to implementing a zero-tolerance principle against fraud, as well as to provide a deterrent effect and strengthen the integrity of Pegadaian personnel. The company also stated its continued commitment to implementing good corporate governance to maintain the trust of stakeholders. Furthermore, Pegadaian assured that services at UPS Pondok Jaya continue to operate normally and safely for the public.
