Pegadaian Joins IBMA Founders, Ready to Integrate Indonesia's Gold Ecosystem
Efforts to strengthen the national bullion ecosystem have entered a new phase with the Indonesia Bullion Market Association (IBMA) plenary session held at Pegadaian Tower, Jakarta, on Monday, 20 July 2026. The session marks an important stage in finalising IBMA’s legal establishment and signals the first step for Indonesia towards building a modern, integrated bullion market capable of competing globally.
At the plenary session, the Director of Marketing, Sales and Product Development of PT Pegadaian (Persero), Selfie Dewiyanti, was officially elected and confirmed as the General Chairperson of IBMA.
The main agenda of the session focused on ratifying the Articles of Association, deliberating and adopting the By-Laws, and signing the plenary minutes. These steps follow the agreement of 11 founding companies who gathered on 6 March 2026, subsequently completed administratively by the Steering Committee, Technical Team and Notary Team under the strategic direction of the government’s representative, Mr Ferry Irawan, Deputy for Coordination of State-Owned Enterprise Management and Business Development at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
As one of the largest gold producers, Indonesia has a very strong geological foundation to become a bullion market hub. However, this potential has yet to be optimised because there has been no single institution uniting industry players and setting uniform industry standards.
IBMA has been established to fill this gap. Acting as a strategic partner to regulators, the association will serve as a bridge connecting all stakeholders from upstream to downstream, covering the Mining, Financial Services, and Refining, Manufacturing and Other Business Support Services sectors, in line with the government’s Asta Cita objectives.
Through strong synergy between the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, supported by the Danantara Investment Management Agency and the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, IBMA is committed to helping the state optimise the use of national gold assets to generate far greater economic value for Indonesia’s economic growth.
“The presence of IBMA carries a major transformation mission for the national economy. We want to change society’s and industry’s paradigm of gold, from merely protecting asset value to becoming a productive, liquid and active financial asset. With the full support of various regulators, we are optimistic we can give rise to gold-based product and service innovations capable of making Indonesia the Leading Bullion Market in Southeast Asia,” said Selfie Dewiyanti.
As a tangible form of support for the organisation’s continuity, PT Pegadaian (Persero) has officially facilitated IBMA’s secretariat office and main meeting room, located at Pegadaian Tower, Jakarta.
The choice of location is considered highly appropriate, as Pegadaian itself has evolved into the most integrated national gold ecosystem hub in Indonesia. All gold industry support facilities are available, ranging from the Pegadaian Gold Bank service, Pegadaian Gold ATM machines, the Galeri 24 gold retail store, and the G-Lab gold purity testing laboratory.
The presence of the IBMA secretariat office at the centre of this ecosystem is expected to strengthen communication among all members, accelerate strategic decision-making, and serve as a trusted centre for gold investment education for the wider public.
With the ratification of IBMA’s management and legal status at the plenary session, Indonesia’s gold industry is now ready to enter an era of bullion market modernisation that is robust, transparent and internationally recognised. (*)
