Peers mourn death of Sukarjo

SURABAYA, East Java: The theater community is in shock at the loss of comedian Sukarjo, who died in Kembangsore village, Pacet, East Java, Tuesday evening.

As reported by Antara, Sukarjo died at the age of 67. He was well-known for his stage act in which he dressed as a women.

"We comedians feel a great loss," said Vera, who is a member of the famous Srimulat comedy show of which Sukarjo was also a member in the late 1970s.

Comedian Cak Kancil, who has a show on state RRI radio station, remembered how his late friend was always down to earth and far from arrogant even at the height of his fame.

Sukarjo's popularity peaked in the mid 1980s when he co- starred in films like Inem Pelayan Seksi (Inem the Sexy Servant) and Tante Sun.
