Pedro Acosta Secures Pole Position for the 2026 Catalan MotoGP
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pedro Acosta put in a stellar performance in the qualifying session for the sixth round of the 2026 Catalan MotoGP, securing pole position and continuing his dominance since the first day at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, on Saturday.
Quoted from the MotoGP website, the Red Bull KTM rider set the fastest time of 1 minute 38.068 seconds, securing the top spot for the main race. This result further confirms Acosta’s impressive performance, which has been consistently strong since the free practice sessions.
Franco Morbidelli from the Pertamina Enduro VR46 team finished second with a gap of 0.233 seconds, while Alex Marquez completed the front row, placing BK8 Gresini Racing in third position.
A major highlight also focused on Jorge Martin, who faced a dramatic session in Q1. The Aprilia Racing rider initially showed promising pace, setting a fastest time of 1 minute 38.701 seconds.
However, Martin crashed with less than two minutes remaining in the session. Fortunately, his time was still enough to secure a spot in Q2, along with Morbidelli, who then took the fastest time in Q1 with a lead of 0.151 seconds.
In Q2, Acosta immediately showed his aggression from the start of the session. In the first attempt, the young Spanish rider already led with a time of 1 minute 38.397 seconds.
He then improved his time to 1 minute 38.068 seconds, which his rivals were unable to match until the end of the session.
Morbidelli and Alex Marquez tried to push in the final minutes, but both failed to dislodge Acosta from the top spot.
Amidst the fierce competition, Marco Bezzecchi had an unlucky session. The Aprilia Racing rider crashed and had to settle for 12th place in Q2.
Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia failed to advance to Q2. The Ducati Lenovo rider will start the race from 13th position after being eliminated in Q1.
