REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — PT Sarinah has commented on the Pedestrian Overpass (JPO) that Governor Pramono Anung of Jakarta recently inaugurated. Raisha Syarfuan, President Director of PT Sarinah, said the company has heard significant public feedback about the JPO not being directly connected to the Sarinah building.

‘We actually very much welcome the Sarinah JPO, but of course we are a heritage site,’ Raisha said in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.

Raisha explained that this status means any modifications, especially to the facade and the building’s structure, must undergo very thorough assessment. Nevertheless, Sarinah welcomes the JPO and will continue to maintain intensive communication with the Jakarta Provincial Government about a possible future connection.

‘Because it’s not an easy matter. We are also a state-owned enterprise-owned heritage building, so the assessment will take longer,’ she said.

Raisha noted that the process is not straightforward and will take longer due to technical aspects, building elevation, and compliance with heritage conservation regulations. She said the Jakarta Provincial Government has an interest in having the JPO usable before Lebaran, when visitor traffic is expected to be high and could have a positive impact on Sarinah.

‘The option of connection remains open, but to cross into Sarinah the elevation needs to be adjusted to meet standards,’ Raisha added.

In planning the JPO connection, Raisha continued, safety considerations take priority, especially since the facility is also intended for people with disabilities and pedestrians who require special access. Therefore, all studies must ensure the safety and comfort of users.

‘We must uphold safety aspects as well, especially since it is designed for people with disabilities and for pedestrians who need special access,’ she concluded.
