Pecatu-Uluwatu Traffic Engineering Made Permanent After One-Month Trial
The Badung Regency Transportation Agency (Dishub), in collaboration with the Traffic and Road Transport Forum (LLAJ), has established that the traffic re-engineering in the Pecatu-Uluwatu area will become permanent starting Thursday (2/7/2026). This decision follows a one-month trial period which was deemed effective in reducing congestion points leading to the South Kuta tourist area.
“The decision to maintain this scheme was made because it is considered effective and requires no changes to the operational formation on the ground. However, there will be the addition of one ‘no entry’ sign from Jalan Raya Uluwatu towards Gang Batu Nungker without specific operational hours,” said the Head of the Badung Transportation Agency, Anak Agung Gede Rahmadi, when met at the Badung Government Centre on Thursday (2/7/2026).
The permanent status was agreed upon through an inter-agency evaluation meeting involving the Class II Bali Land Transportation Management Office (BPTD), the police, district officials, and local village authorities. Although the policy is now binding, the enforcement of traffic fines for violators will only be implemented by the police once the Badung Regent’s Decree (SK) is officially issued.
“The majority of residents have responded positively because the vehicle flow now feels smoother and travel has become more comfortable,” explained Rahmadi.
The focus of this traffic management targets six crucial intersections, with primary priority given to the intersection of Jalan Toya Ning II-Jalan Raya Uluwatu and the intersection of Jalan Baler Setra-Jalan Blimbing Sari. Under the new rules, vehicles from Jalan Raya Uluwatu are prohibited from turning directly towards Jalan Toya Ning II. Conversely, traffic from Jalan Toya Ning II is only permitted to turn left towards Pecatu and is strictly prohibited from turning right towards Ungasan between 17:00 and 22:00 WITA.
“The current road capacity is the only main access to the Uluwatu area, so in the short term, this re-engineering must be implemented as tourists continue to arrive. For the long term, the Regent has actually planned the construction of a ring road as a permanent solution to ease access,” added Rahmadi.
In addition to the restrictions in the Toya Ning area, regulations are also applied to vehicles from the Jalan Baler Setra-Jalan Blimbing Sari intersection, which are prohibited from turning west towards Jalan Raya Uluwatu. The prohibition on turning west at that intersection applies to all types of vehicles, except for motorcycles.
“To ensure effectiveness, joint inter-agency officers will remain stationed at their respective posts throughout the afternoon and evening operational hours. Periodic monitoring will be conducted from the Pecatu Village Office junction, Toya Ning junction, Nirmala junction, to the Bali State Polytechnic junction, in collaboration with local security (Linmas), the police, and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP),” concluded Rahmadi.
