Pecalang safeguard Muslim worshippers during Idul Adha prayer at Tanah Aron, Karangasem

Thousands of Muslims from various regions attended the Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah prayer at Tanah Aron field in Karangasem, Bali, this morning. The prayer ceremony was conducted solemnly and smoothly.

A dozen members of Karangasem Traditional Village Pecalang assisted in securing the prayer at the public field. Dressed in traditional Balinese attire with headscarves and poleng cloth (black-and-white checkered pattern), the Pecalang guarded the prayer area.

Some helped police manage traffic flow, while others assisted Muslims in crossing to the prayer site.

“This is a demonstration of interfaith tolerance in Karangasem,” said I Gede Putu Budiasa, Chairman of Karangasem Traditional Village Pecalang, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Budiasa stated that Pecalang involvement in securing places of worship during major religious events is routine, including Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, and other significant occasions.

According to Budiasa, a dozen Pecalang were deployed for security at Tanah Aron field this year. Additionally, several Pecalang and other security personnel were stationed at mosques within the Karangasem Traditional Village area.

“So far, the security process for the Idul Adha prayer has proceeded safely and smoothly,” he added.

Interfaith tolerance in Karangasem Traditional Village has long been established. Muslim residents often participate in security duties during Hindu religious ceremonies in the area.

One resident, Ibnu Rahman, said he deliberately came with his family to perform the Id prayer at Tanah Aron field. For Ibnu, congregational prayer feels more devout and communal.

Although living in Denpasar, he always makes time to return to Karangasem during religious holidays. Ibnu also uses the Idul Adha occasion to experience the festive spirit of the sacrifice day in his hometown.

“I live in Denpasar, but happened to be visiting family here. I also joined the congregational Idul Adha prayer,” Ibnu said.
