Peak Return Traffic for Eid at Purabaya Bus Terminal Reaches 50,000 Passengers
The peak of the Eid return traffic at Purabaya Bus Terminal took place on Tuesday night (24/3), with the number of passengers estimated to reach 40,000 to 50,000 people. This surge in passengers occurred alongside the increased arrival of bus fleets from various areas in East Java as well as outside the province.
Since Tuesday, more than a thousand intercity interprovincial (AKAP) and intercity within province (AKDP) bus fleets have been recorded entering Purabaya Terminal. The increase in the number of public transport vehicles has directly impacted the density of passenger activities, which continued to rise until late at night.
Based on data from the terminal management, Tuesday was predicted to be the peak of the first wave of Eid return traffic. Passengers came from various cities in East Java, Central Java, West Java, and even Denpasar, Bali, returning to their destinations after celebrating Eid al-Fitr in their hometowns.
Although passenger density was already significantly visible, the return flow is expected to continue for the next few days. This situation arises because some people choose to delay their return trips until closer to the end of the Eid holiday period.
Purabaya Terminal’s public relations officer, Debby Tri Indah, stated that another passenger surge is predicted in the subsequent wave. “The explosion of the peak passenger return in the second wave is expected to occur on Sunday, 29 March. This is because civil servants and school students will start returning on 30 March 2026,” said Debby Tri Indah, as quoted on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
The terminal authorities continue to monitor passenger movements and bus fleet readiness to ensure the smooth flow of the return traffic. Management is also anticipating an increase in passenger arrivals at the upcoming weekend as the Eid holiday period ends.
