The government has advised the public to avoid the peak return traffic for Eid 2026 on 28–29 March. Vehicle traffic during that period is expected to experience an increase.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated that the public is encouraged to schedule their journeys earlier to ensure a more even distribution of vehicles and avoid concentration at specific times.

“We also urge the public not to pile up on the 28th–29th at the end of the holiday days,” said Pratikno after inspecting the mudik and return traffic conditions at the Jasa Marga Toll Road Command Centre in Bekasi on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.

Pratikno explained that this year’s Eid outbound traffic has generally proceeded smoothly, despite a temporary increase in vehicle volume from H-12 to H+3 of Eid. “There was an increase of 4.6 to nearly 5 percent. The crossings were also very high, but alhamdulillah, it went smoothly,” he said.

In addition, traffic accident figures during that period were reported to have decreased by around 16 percent. According to him, the smoothness of the outbound traffic is inseparable from the readiness of cross-agency efforts and support from data-based monitoring systems that enable quick responses on the ground.

Pratikno also appreciated the hard work of the officers who remained on duty during the Eid period to maintain the smoothness and safety of public travel.

He added that the return traffic is expected to see an increase of around five percent, thus requiring the public to manage their travel times to avoid density at the peak return traffic.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, stated that by Wednesday afternoon, the number of vehicles returning to Jakarta had reached around 2.04 million units out of the total vehicles that left previously.

“That means there is still a remainder of around 2.5 million vehicles that left Jakarta. Minus those that have entered, that is our homework to unravel during the peak return traffic,” said the Police Chief.

The government recorded a temporary peak return traffic of 256,338 vehicles in one day, higher than last year’s Eid period of 223,163 vehicles. He stated that the government continues to encourage dispersal so that the return traffic does not accumulate at the peak of the Eid holiday period.
